Mad Tigers fan? Not really…

It would be easy to be mad, even furious at the Detroit Tigers this year. I mean, they were in first place since May for crying out loud. It all ended on one of the best baseball games any true baseball fan could want to watch. But what webnt wrong? Here are a few things:

1. Offense

Aboviously, they could not score enough runs in big situations. But why? Was it Leyland tweeking the line up too many times, pulling a classsic ‘over-managing situation’ that wouldn’t let players get comfortable and get in a grove? That’s part of it. Ordonez was not Ordonez until after the All-Star break? Yup. It was just strange.

2. They weren’t that good

Folks, this team was pick by NOBODY to do anything this year. They massivly over achieved. That is no excuse for the choke, but they did play .500 baseball during a stretch when the Twins played .800 baseball. Beside two little winning streaks, the Tigers were a .500 baseball team.

Who should they keep?

Polanco–How can you not love this guy? One of the greatest trades in Tiger history(Polly for Urbins, who in jail for murder in South America) He has been nothing but reliable both at bat and in the field. But he is getting older. We have alot of bad contracts with aging players. If we can get him for under $6 milliion a year and for less than 3 years, do it. Otherwise…..

Rodney–Get year. He’s 33 and can get WAY too much money elsewhere. Have to say thanks and goodbye.
