Stomach Surgery Can Help You Lose Weight

Obesity was practically unheard of here a decade ago. Now, according to Professor Chung, an obesity expert, one-tenth of urban children are obese, and the numbers are rising steadily. Obesity may increase the risk of acid reflux, in which stomach acid leaks into the oesophagus. Acid reflux increases the risk of Barrett’s oesophagus. Obese adults are costing our health care industries billions of dollars each year. This is why many people are choosing gastrectomy surgery to help overcome their obesity.

Stomach surgery is a major operation. It’s only done if your weight is very high and dangerous to your health and if you’ve tried other ways of losing weight. Stomach surgery is known under many different names with the most common being gastric bypass surgery. In this stomach surgery, the surgeon staples a portion of the stomach together, creating a much smaller pouch for food storage. Stomach surgery is currently the only effective treatment for obesity, and it may lead to loss of 30% of original weight within 2 years.

Stomach surgery although risky, costs the world billions of dollars each year. However, the cost of an obese society would be much more than that considering the cost of health care for an aging, obese population. For those that have tried other ways to lose weight, surgery may be their only hope and it has been proven to be effective.
